CMS335 Learning Objective 2:

Analyze and evaluate an
effective creative brief for
an advertising campaign

A creative brief is a concise, strategic document that guides a creative project by aligning all all internal (and sometimes external) stakeholders so that everyone from clients to designers understands the vision, scope, key message, and deliverables to avoid miscommunication and missed deadlines. It provides essential project details (objectives, target audience, tone, visuals, budget, timeline) helping to prevent scope creep and ensure the final output meets the established objectives.

Healthfirst
Pharmacy Incentive Program (2025)

My current position as Senior Manager, Provider Communications for Healthfirst, is primarily a strategic one in which I am charged with not only managing the completion of marketing and communications requests from across the company, but analyzing them to determine if what is being asked is actually the most effective approach to achieve the stated objective.

Such was the case when our Pharmacy team asked for approval to distribute a newsletter they had created in MS Word. There were several reasons I rejected the request, from lack of branding to the choice of email as the distribution channel. I saw this as an opportunity to create a much more effective digital destination through which the company could not only interact with our pharmacists and track critical data, but also build the foundation for supporting the incentive program on an pharmacist-specific basis and creating a tool for recruiting new pharmacists into the program.

The resulting brief calls for a new landing page fed by quarterly emails to pharmacists. In its initial phase, the page will offer program-wide data and highlight top performers. Future phases will include recruitment initiatives and the possibility of password-protected, individual pharmacist performance data.

Healthfirst Annual Flu Campaign (2023)

Each year Healthfirst encourages its members to get their flu shots. This serves both the population health and Healthfirst’s quality scores. In 2023, I proposed supporting the member effort with a coordinated provider focused promotion effort as well. The effort was  conservative, but had a noticeable effect on our quality scores. For 2023, I proposed focusing the effort on areas of low vaccine adherence and targeting ethnic groups that showed the greatest reluctance to vaccinate. The results were positive and helped Healthfirst rise to a 4.5 Star rating from CMS.

Cornerstone Pharmaceuticals (2009)

Cornerstone Pharmaceuticals, Inc., is a privately held pharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery and development of cancer therapies. They intended to trial their first major drug development through a wholly-owned subsidiary, allowing physicians to administer the drug and monitor the progress of their own patients, a unique approach at the time (2009). The attached proposal to the company contains Situation Analysis, Strategic Objectives, and Recommendations pages which double as a project brief for the entire initiative. The drug, CPI613, remains in testing today.
